Why Pipeline Insights

The problem

Flaky and slow CI wastes minutes and developer time; no simple failure breakdown.

Who it is for

Engineering managers / DevOps at teams with 10+ GitHub Actions workflows.

What makes it different

Failure-reason distribution and runtime usage from exported run history; no repo write access.

Limitations, stated up front: Not an integrated GitHub Actions monitoring product yet; the free Action is not published.

How it works

  1. Bring your dataExport your CI workflow run history as CSV.
  2. We analyse itPipeline Insights groups failures by cause and sums run minutes.
  3. You act on itFix the top failure causes first, using the action list.

Demo with sample data

Fictional sample input processed by the same engine the app uses. No real customer data.

Sample input
workflow,status,duration_minutes,failure_reason
build,success,4.2,
build,failed,5.0,dependency timeout
build,failed,3.1,dependency timeout
deploy,success,7.6,
deploy,failed,8.5,permission denied

Result

Analyzed historical workflow run export.

  • runs: 5
  • failure rate percent: 60.0
  • workflows: 2
  • minutes by workflow: {"build": "12.3", "deploy": "16.1"}
  • warning 2 failure(s): dependency timeout — 66.7% of failures
  • warning 1 failure(s): permission denied — 33.3% of failures

CSV is a normalized adapter input. GitHub Actions real-time API integration requires installation and read-only authorization.
